POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT PLAN
"I've felt that if you dwell too much on your errors, you're dealing in the negativity of things. I don't like that. I'd rather work on the positive reinforcement, the things I did well."

When students break a classroom rule, it is important to intervene and correct the behavior. However, it is equally important to tell students when they are doing something right. I have implemented a lot of different elements of positive reinforcement into my classroom in hopes that it will be a form of motivation and enjoyment for my students. Not only does positive reinforcement shape positive behavior, but it helps to create a comfortable and engaging learning environment.
FREE FRIDAY
Normally during the study hall or advisory period, students are expected to work quietly on homework or other activities. If students are well-behaved throughout the week and there are no major or repeated infractions, they will be able to have "Free Friday". Free Friday allows students to talk freely, play games, and otherwise bond with their classmates.

MOVIE DAY
We cover a great number of classic novels in my classes, and each novel makes up a unit. Many of the novels we read in class have been depicted through movies or other media. If, at the end of each unit, all students have their work turned in and there are no missing assignments, we will watch the movie version of the novel we have read. If there is no movie for the literature we read, students will vote on a different, appropriate movie to watch.

POINT SYSTEM
It is very important to get students invested and active in classroom discussions. In order to boost this participation, a student will get one point for each time they answer a question or give a comment during discussion time in class. Every three points, students will receive a ticket in which they can enter a drawing to receive "prizes" such as extra credit, homework passes, late passes, and stationary. Tickets are drawn at the end of the each week; five students will win at each drawing.
